Kirk Tatom
Cambria artist Kirk Tatom was born in Manhattan Kansas. He began his formal training at the University of Utah from which he obtained a B.F.A. on a full merit scholarship.
Kirk was one of the foremost carvers of stone in Santa Fe for nearly 20 years. In 1977 he put down the chisel and picked up the paintbrush, with success following once again. He is noted for painting the lush green fields and farms of this country. Kirk gravitates towards the rural landscapes where he often finds cows, horses, sheep and peaceful streams.
Preparation of the panel he paints on requires placing texture exactly where it belongs. The surface may be sanded, scraped, polished, scored then washed, stained, and glazed. Following this process are the elements of a painting. He often has as many as ten paintings in the works at a time.
Kirk has been fortunate to heighten the impact of his paintings with exquisitely hand carved, gold leaf frames crafted by his father and brother.
Kirk Tatom has an extensive and successful exhibition history in Gallery’s in Palm Desert, Naples, Florida, Aspen, Colorado, Santa Fe, NM, and Dallas, Texas.
