A strong advocate of environmental conservation, he is dedicated to preserving the beauty of California's Central Coast. His photographs reflect these wider concerns.

David Stroup has been widely shown. He has had exhibitions in the Museum of Arts in Los Angeles, the Santa Barbara Museum and has been published by the Sierra Club.
